			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I want to share my thoughts on stance and footwork.</p>
<p>Everyone has a way of standing and moving that suits them. You have to find the best compromise between being able to move, being able to protect yourself, being solid enough to punch and your own comfort. I have embedded a few videos below that show parts of what I think is a good all-round stance and ways of moving. I will make a video so its all in one place.</p>

<div>All stances and movements are based on having the left foot forward or the orthodox stance. Having your right foot forward is known as southpaw. <h3>Stance</h3>

<div>A good introduction to the boxing stance. You can&#8217;t see his feet in the video but his toes are turned 45 degrees from pointing straight ahead .</div>
<h3>Stance and footwork</h3>

<div>Another good introduction on footwork. Start with the foot slide. Once you get used to it, convert it into more of a step. Make sure you lift the foot off the ground enough to stop it catching as you move it.</div>

<div>He takes a wider, less mobile stance. Its a good stance for starting and using upper body motion to avoid punches. Eventually bring the feet a little closer together and bend the front knee a little more. This will make it easier to move especially when adding in throwing or defending kicks</div>

<div>This video is harder to watch but I think the stance is better. The front foot isn&#8217;t so far in front that the boxer cannot move without having to move the foot first. That is, to go backwards, the front foot will have to move back, then the back foot then the front foot again. With this stance, the boxer can balance on the push backwards with the front foot causing the back foot to move then follow with the front foot, i.e. two movements not three. The arms are held in a good position for boxers starting out.</div>
<h3>Footwork</h3>

<div>Its a little bit hard to understand the coach but listen carefully, he really knows his stuff. I like what he says. Watch the difference between the coach&#8217;s foot and the boxer&#8217;s when moving forward and backwards. He is using as little movement as is needed, the boxer is taking extra steps. The coach is saving energy whereas the boxer is wasting hers.</div>

A good video of the basics. I think the rear foot does drag a bit too much on the ground when moving forward. Moving forward fast, the back foot should push the front foot forward. The back foot should not be bought up to meet the front before the front foot moves.

<div>This is a great example of what you can work up to. A slow motion option would really help <img src='http://www.boxing-tips.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' title="Boxing Tips   Basic Stance and Footwork" />  However, make sure you have the technique before speeding up. I think he is giving up some technique in order to be faster.</div>
